Welcome to the site of the 29th International Conference on the History of Cartography 2021 – ICHC 2021. The Conference will take place in Bucharest, Romania, in 4 – 9 July 2021.
The conference is being organized by the National Museum of Maps and Old Books in Bucharest and the University of Bucharest, in collaboration with Imago Mundi Ltd. The main venue will be Aula Magna of the Central University Library “Carol I” of Bucharest, with some sessions to be held in the amphitheaters of the Faculty of History, University of Bucharest. Both venues are located close to Bucharest’s historical centre. The conferences will be accompanied by a suite of map exhibitions showcasing the collections of several Bucharest institutions, as well as a social programme that explores
The main conference theme will be ‘War and Post-War Cartographies’. In accordance with the fragmented history of this corner of Europe, the purpose of this theme is to investigate the intricate links between military conflicts, politics and mapping, and the significance of these links for the history of cartography.
The official language of the conference will be English, and all abstracts and presentations must be in that language. There will be no simultaneous translation.
